Information about this painting:
The Accolade shows the moment when a young man is made a knight. In the scene, a noble lady—probably a queen or princess—gently taps a kneeling knight on the shoulder with a sword. This ceremony is called a “knighting” or “accolade,” and it was a big honor in medieval times.
The young man is kneeling with respect, wearing armor, while the lady stands tall in a flowing gown. The scene symbolizes bravery, loyalty, and the ideal of chivalry—a knight’s code of honor and duty.
Although the painting looks like it's from the Middle Ages, it was actually painted in 1901, during the Victorian era. People back then were very interested in medieval stories and values, and this artwork reflects that romantic view of the past.
